The Who’s Who In Black South Florida Toasted The Inaugural Publication of WWBSF With Style and Grace

Fort Lauderdale, FL (April 23, 2007) On April 10th, the crème de la crème of South Florida African-American society came out to toast the unveiling of the highly anticipated Who’s Who in Black South Florida (WWBSF) publication at the Rose and Alfred Miniaci Center for Performing Arts, on the campus of Nova Southeastern University, host sponsor for its Unveiling Reception.

The evening began with a red carpet entrance into the H. Wayne Huizenga, School of Business, where hundreds of guests networked  and enjoyed hors d’ oeuvres, and beverages before heading into the theater for the unveiling presentation.  The event was a sellout and the theater was standing room only.  Many in the crowd expressed amazement and delight at such a large gathering of South Florida black achievers.  Former Congresswoman Carrie Meek stated that the collection of black movers and shakers “..has touched my spirit and made me feel I was back in Washington D.C.”

Among the Living Legends honored were former Congresswoman Carrie Meek, radio broadcasting pioneer Jerry Rushin and legendary power attorney Willie E. Gary.  The program included a posthumous tribute to the late M. Athalie Range, business leader and community activist.  Her son, Patrick Range and grandson, attorney, N. Patrick, Range, II, along with other family members, were on hand to receive an award in her memory.

Pamela M. Hutchinson, Who’s Who in Black South Florida Publisher was overwhelmed with well-wishes and congratulations from many in attendance.  Sope Aluko, a local businesswoman featured in the directory commented that the event was “absolutely phenomenal”.  Dr. Dorsey Miller, a member of Who’s Who in Black South Florida Advisory Board added: “I am proud to be part of this historical event.”  Ms. Hutchinson noted and thanked the thirty-one member Advisory Board for believing in and supporting the publication.   Later, Ms. Hutchinson quoted the bible verse: “..To whom much is given, much is required”, as a pretext to a one-thousand ($1,000) donation she and her husband, Jerome presented to 100 Black Men of Greater Fort Lauderdale on behalf of their company Success Marketing and Management, Inc.

C. Sunny Martin, Who’s Who Publishing, LLC. Founder/CEO recognized the many sponsors and advertisers which included notable South Florida companies such as Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd., Access Health Solutions, Burger King, Ocean Bank, JM Family Enterprises, Bank of America, City Furniture and many others.

As the celebrated honorees and Living Legends, arrived they greeted over 650 admirers, walked the red carpet and took a host of pictures with guests.  The evening was graced by Dr. Bobby Jones, BET’s renowned gospel extraordinaire responsible for its longest airing Sunday show, Bobby Jones Gospel. Dr. Jones took pictures with admiring fans and mingled with other reception guests.  NBC 6 Meteorologist and South Florida Today host, Trina Robinson, and WHQT’s Ken James co-hosted the highly anticipated event.  The Dillard High School Jazz Ensemble entertained guests in the courtyard during the reception and the Dillard Chorale performed two selections during the program; earning a standing ovation for their rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”  Who’s Who Publishing’s Founder/CEO C. Sunny Martin presented a one-thousand ($1,000) donation to the Dillard High School for the Performing Arts.

Other notables in attendance at the Who’s Who Inaugural Unveiling Reception included Cecil Hayes, Interior Designer to the Stars, Linnes Finney, President of the National Bar Association, Elijah Williams, Broward County Circuit Judge, Miami Gardens Mayor Shirley Gibson and Dr. Rovan Locke, Publisher of the Caribbean American Commentary Newspaper, along with many other prominent African/Caribbean-American business leaders, entrepreneurs, educators, and socialites from South Florida.
